Thinking about the world we are living in today, I realized we are experiencing at least two realities at the same time. Millions of people are cheering on college and professional football. More are rooting for their favorite baseball team in the playoffs leading to the World Series, and all levels of school and professional soccer teams are playing everywhere. Ice hockey has just started also. And don’t forget the Super Bowl and Bad Bunny will be here soon.
Then there are those of us that are anxiously waiting college basketball to start. Track meets and marathons are happening, and ski competitions are just around the corner. I’m sure I missed a few sports but you get my drift.
Shifting gears, theater performances and symphony concerts are in full swing, and other concerts of all kinds are busy touring and local events are constantly happening.
There is no end to entertainment opportunities and people everywhere are taking them in, even sometimes at great cost.
Then, at the same time, there is the slow coup being fostered by President Trump and his thugs. That’s despite people who are warning us about it every day. Millions of Americans are busy being distracted and entertained while a minority are peacefully protesting the unlawful and brutal acts being committed by the Trump Administration everywhere you look.
It appears the only hope of stopping this train wreck is for millions more to protest and hopefully for the federal courts to prevail. That is, in spite of the Supreme Court’s majority ultra-conservative judges, who seem to agree with the administration’s expansion of power, ignoring laws and court decisions, and disregard for the other branches of government.
Unfortunately, millions of Americans apparently agree with Trump’s actions and millions more either don’t care or are not interested enough to pay attention.
So, what is this country going to look like a year from now?
