When is enough enough? I find it interesting many people are never satisfied with what they have and always need more. Of course I’m not talking about those who live in poverty or under oppression. I’m thinking about those who have plenty of everything and are more than comfortable but never seem to be satisfied. Always wanting more wealth, houses with rooms that never get used, adulation, power, relationships, sex, large yachts, expensive cars, or just plain stuff that they never use or look at.
During my life I guess I’ve never had the opportunity to experience too much, so maybe I’m just jealous or don’t understand. I was born into a good family with a modest lifestyle but we never went without. I had a couple of good careers, have seen a lot of the world, enjoyed many non-work adventures, had a good time with several partners, have three wonderful kids, and have been active in the community.
The past few years I have slowly simplified my life and I don’t feel I’ve missed too much. Yes, there are places I wish I had visited and adventures that would have been fun to do, but even if I had the resources to finance more, I couldn’t have done it all.
I was recently asked if I was happy. After thinking a few seconds, I said I don’t know about happy but I’m content.
For me I guess that’s enough.
