What Fun Would That Have Been

Many people go through life on the same track. Some never leave the field they were educated in. Others stay married for life to the same spouse. Still others start golf or another sport and continue until they are no longer physically able. This list is incomplete but it makes my point.

I, on the other hand, have not been able to be that consistent in much of anything I have done. Unfortunately, I get bored too easily and my interest in the same thing doesn’t seem to last for long. That has been true with education, working in industry, my personal relationships, and even within my forty-plus years as a professional designer and woodworker.

At my drawing table back in the 1970s

I designed and built a family home. Remodeled another. Built outdoor decks, custom fences and enclosures, custom cabinetry, custom entry doors, and hand carved signs. Restored or matched historical woodwork. Made custom molding for high-end custom houses. Made furniture, custom trade show exhibits, custom light fixtures, landscape structures, display cabinets, sculpture pieces, stereo cabinets, and wood components. And now I’m into turning wood bowls.

The last few years I have been spending some time reflecting and writing about some of my adventures, accomplishments, and yes, failures, and posting them on my blog. Had I stayed focused on one thing I probably would have developed a more successful financial and personal life. But then what fun would that have been.
